Currently we recycle the majority of items that come in. There are however, a number of items that there is currently no local recycling stream for. If you are dropping off any of of the items below we would ask you to consider either if you really need to dispose of the item, if it can be given away (the local freecycle network is great for this) or to provide a donation to help us off set the cost of disposal.
Packaging
Expanded Polystyrene Blocks, the type used in the shipment of large equipment such as computers and other household appliances cause quite a headache for us as there is no one locally currently recycling this. We get a great deal of this in as it is the major component used in packaging computers, printers, etc. In 2010 we had to send over 10 wool bales full of polystyrene to the local landfill.
Cardboard Boxes Whilst we can and do recycle cardboard, we are quite often inundated with it and find is it quite a hassle to recycle it in the volume we receive it. We would ask if you are able to take any packaging away with you as it is able to be placed in with your kerbside recycing. This would help us out immensely.
Cabinetry
TV Stands, Speaker Surrounds Mostly made from Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF) or Chipboard again currently this also goes into the landfill as it is difficult to recycle as it is generally contaminated with glues, resins, paint and plastics.
Glass
Toughened Glass such as that used in anti glare shields and in television stands again can't be recycled. We are currently stockpiling this. so if anyone has any ingenious uses for this glass let us know.
